Lady Wisdom: the woman who wasn't and always was

Wisdom is a key factor in following Christ. I have always known this, I mean, you hear it all the time. "Be wise." "Use your head." "This is going to take a great deal of wisdom and discernment." And it got me thinking: how highly does God consider wisdom? so I did a search, and this is what I found:

  • The word 'wise' is used in the Bible 189 times
  • The word 'wisdom' is used in the Bible 219 times
  • There are 50 Proverbs about wisdom in the book of Proverbs. 
  • and there are 54 Proverbs about righteousness (which you can't have without wisdom and wisdom can't be without) in the book of Proverbs. 
Then I looked up wisdom in my all too ginormous old testament Dictionary ( Of only wisdom, poetry, and writings, not the rest of the old testament) and I found 74 pages on the word wisdom and Woman/Lady Wisdom. IN A DICTIONARY. 

It is safe to say that wisdom is an important part of believing in and following our Lord and Savior. 

Lady Wisdom is actually a personification of God's wisdom, which is really cool because she is sort of a part of the trinity in an obscure, she doesn't get a whole spot which would make it a quartinity instead of a trinity kind of way. But she plays a very large role in humanity and she was even around to help God with creation. She is an interesting character of the Bible to talk about because she isn't really a person and many don't truly understand her. It is often debated whether she is God's own wisdom or not and if she was, how could she have been created first if she was in fact his own wisdom. She is certainly someone fun to read about and discuss with friends and family. 

That's what we are going to talk about this week. We will look at who Lady Wisdom is, what it looks like to be wise and righteous in the eyes of the Lord and how we obtain that wisdom. 

So what does wisdom mean to you? what does it mean to the other members of your family? What does it look like when acted on? Who is the wisest person you know?

Sex--It's Complicated.
